WHAT IS CBD Oil (Cannabidiol)?

The medical properties of marijuana and its active ingredients are receiving more and more confirmations. The results of numerous scientific studies and the statements of patients who successfully defeated the disease are the best evidence of this. Today, one of the most studied components of cannabis is called cannabidiol (CBD) – cannabinoid, which has outstanding healing properties. Here we are to explain (what is CBD oil)?

In the USA and Canada, it has been successfully used to treat epilepsy, schizophrenia, Travel syndrome, and other serious illnesses. What is CBD oil really?, and how is it different from other cannabinoids?

Cannabidiol and THC

Cannabidiol is one of the 85 active chemical compounds found in cannabis. Unlike another known cannabinoid, THC, cannabidiol does not have psychoactive properties. In other words, its use does not affect perception and does not cause changes in consciousness. At the same time, CBD has enormous medical potential. The substance has an anti-inflammatory effect, relieves spasms, prevents the appearance of seizures, and even inhibits epileptic seizures, which is proved by clinical trials.

Isolated in laboratory conditions, CBD looks like a colorless crystalline solid with regular crystals. It is insoluble in water, but it is well soluble in organic compounds (ethanol, benzene). In cannabis varieties with dominant Indica genetics, CBD is found in higher concentrations than Sativa varieties in hemp.

Cannabidiol affects the activity of the cannabinoid receptors CB1 and CB2, but not like THC. CBD acts as an antagonist, balancing the action of THC. (In the same way, the substance also affects opioid receptors, according to a study by specialists from ISMMS, New York. Scientists have conducted a series of animal experiments, which revealed that cannabidiol reduces addiction to heroin in addicts.)

The legal status of the CBD in the world is still somewhat uncertain. For example, in the UN Convention on Psychotropic Substances, cannabidiol is not specified separately. In the list of narcotic and psychotropic substances subject to mandatory control in the Russian Federation, CBD is also not a separate item. But on the other hand, this document contains “Tetrahydrocannabinol (all isomers).” Although it has not been scientifically proven that cannabidiol is indeed an isomer of THC, official authorities claim that the substance is also on the list of banned substances. This makes it illegal in the Russian Federation.

Ukraine and Belarus have their own analogs of such a list, but they use even more vague wording “any parts of plants of the genus Cannabis.” In the United States, CBD and THC are defined by federal law as hazardous substances of the first category (i.e., without healing potential). Still, in some states, their therapeutic use is entirely legal. It is noteworthy that in the United States, cannabinoids obtained from the hemp of industrial varieties are not subject to restrictions, because they fall under the definition of “nutritional supplement.” In Canada, CBD is officially considered a controlled drug.

CBD is the first known cannabinoid

CBD, like other cannabinoids, is formed in hemp under the influence of various enzymes that are actively produced by the plant during flowering. Initially, the compound cannabigerol (CBG) is formed as a result of the interaction of complex pyrophosphates and oligomeric acids.

Cannabigerol is a kind of “semi-finished product” of all cannabinoids. Under the influence of enzymes, CBG is transformed into more complex chemical compounds.

The mechanisms and chemical processes that occur in hemp during this period are still poorly understood. But scientists know for sure that as a result, a number of active substances are formed, called cannabinoids: THC, cannabinol, CBD, cannabidiol, cannabicitran, cannabichromene, etc. THC and CBD are usually found in the highest concentration.

Cannabidiol was one of the first active ingredients identified in cannabis. Roger Adams, an American expert on plant alkaloids and fats, conducted the first laboratory research in this area back in the 1940s. Given that the Marijuana Act of 1937 was in effect at that time, and that pre-war tension was growing in the world (due to which FBI and intelligence agents controlled the activities of most scientists), Adams’s studies cost him a lot of work. But even in such severe conditions, he managed not only to isolate the CBD but also to obtain its synthetic analog in the laboratory. Thanks to the scientific work carried out by Adams, later scientists were able to discover many other cannabinoids, including THC.

Properties of CBD

Cannabinoids are known to promote health and to keep people resilient to changes in their environment. CBD can be an incredibly safe and therapeutic component of cannabis.

  • Hemp and marijuana come from the same plant family, Cannabis sativa L., but are completely different in function, cultivation, and application.
  • Marijuana generally has a high level of THC, the psychoactive compound that makes you high, and is used for medicinal or recreational purposes.
  • Hemp may contain a trace amount of THC (0.3% or less), but hemp has significant levels of CBD.
  • CBD extracted from marijuana is illegal in most states. CBD extracted from agricultural hemp is legal under federal law, as long as it contains less than 0.3% THC or less.

The rawest, yet beneficial form of hemp extract. The beneficial terpenes, flavonoids, and Phyto-cannabinoids, including CBG, CBC, and other naturally occurring minor cannabinoids,  remain present in our finished oil.  All of these compounds working together synergistically create the entourage effect.

Distillate hemp extract is made when working with a low-quality full-spectrum extract that needs to be “cleaned up”. Through high heat molecular distillation, this extract is purified and concentrated by removing the plant fats, lipids, chlorophyll and phytochemicals to create a pure gold oil. This process loses a majority of the terpenes, flavonoids and other phytochemicals that create the entourage in a full spectrum oil

THC can be removed from a distillate hemp extract to create a THC-free, broad cannabinoid product. This extract has few beneficial minor cannabinoids, but no longer has a majority of terpenes, flavonoids, and other beneficial minor cannabinoids. This formulation can be shipped across state lines.

Isolate is the singular pure CBD compound. Non-psychoactive cannabidiol (CBD) is derived from the distillate. There is 0% THC in our crystalline isolate. This product has no other cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids, or other beneficial naturally occurring phytochemicals.

The synergistic and scientific composition of hemp oil is a holistic therapy that can be used for natural skin and body healing.
