Learn how to determine your dose of CBD using your body weight. In this beginner guide, we cover the basics of what you need to know about dosing CBD.
You’re probably starting to consider taking CBD oil because of the numerous health benefits it has. CBD Oil (cannabidiol) is effective at relieving anxiety, depression, pain, inflammation, improving sleep, treating acne and many other health benefits. Certain CBD products on the market have even been FDA approved to treat epilepsy.

CBD oil is easy to take and can be easily incorporated into your daily regimen. To gain all of the natural health benefits, you can simply take CBD oil quickly under the tongue, on the skin, with a hot or cold drink, or as an edible.
Dosing of CBD oil is different for everyone because the effects depend on factors like age, weight, and gender. Of course, we could recommend a dosage range such as 50 – 150 mg per day, but this range is too large to be beneficial and can have different adverse effects on people due to other factors.
Two individuals who are the same sex and have similar identical height and weight can react differently to the same dose of CBD.
The first person might find a dose of 5mL of CBD oil perfect for reducing their joint and nerve pain, while the second person finds no relief with that small dosage and may need 30mL in order to feel the benefits. Other individuals may be the opposite and could find an effective dose with just a few drops or may need more drops.
CBD Oil Dosages
It’s imperative to always start with a small dose like 1-5mL and gradually work your way up from that dosage. This is to test how responsive you are with a lighter dose before increasing to a higher dosage. You don’t want to take way too much CBD oil the first time because the experience can make you feel very uneasy and uncomfortable throughout the day.

Find the right dose
Your friend may find the right dose at 30mg, while you may require far more, or far less depending on your overall body weight, age, and gender. The best way to identify this is to begin using the dosages from above and slowly increase from there.
Maybe you took 15mg and didn’t find any beneficial relief for your symptoms like your arthritis joint pain, the reasonable step is to increase your dosage to the next strength tier and reassess how you feel again.
Or maybe you took the 25mg and found excellent relief, but became a little too drowsy as a result, — it’s time to tweak the dose to a slightly smaller amount to reduce the drowsiness. This is an ongoing process because you need to assess how different CBD oils can affect you, so you might be changing dosages often to adjust to your needs.
It’s important to know that each manufacturer of CBD Oil produces its products differently and depending on the cannabinoids, terpenes, and phytochemicals that are contained in the oils they use. You may notice that CBD isolate requires a significantly higher dosage of CBD to work despite the high concentration.
This is due to something called the “Entourage Effect.” The entourage effect is the idea that full-spectrum CBD oils have stronger effects because of the other ingredients in the hemp plant all working together to produce the maximum effects.
Different CBD Oil Potencies
CBD oils come in a wide range of potencies. Some may have 1000mg of CBD oil in a 15mg bottle or others have less with only 150mg of CBD in a 30mL bottle. This can help put everything into a better context and a little easier to understand when calculating what your dose should be.
Calculations of CBD Oil Dosages:
|Bottle Size||300 mg||600 mg||1000 mg||1500 mg|
|15 mL||20 mg/mL||40 mg/mL||66 mg/mL||100 mg/mL|
|30 mL||10 mg/mL||20 mg/mL||33 mg/mL||50 mg/mL|
|50 mL||6 mg/mL||12 mg/mL||20 mg/mL||30 mg/mL|
For example, if you need a very low dose, it doesn’t make much sense to get a CBD oil with a very high potency because it would be way too strong to take and you wouldn’t feel the benefits as you should. If you require a higher dosage of CBD you may need to take half of the bottle just to get the desired effects when using a less potent dosage of CBD oil.
Doses of CBD Oil by Drops (assuming 30 drops per mL)
|Bottle Size||300 mg||600 mg||1000 mg||1500 mg|
|15 mL||0.7 mg/drop||1.3 mg/drop||2.2 mg/drop||3.3 mg/drop|
|30 mL||0.3 mg/drop||0.7 mg/drop||1.1 mg/drop||1.7 mg/drop|
|50 mL||0.2 mg/drop||0.3 mg/drop||0.6 mg/drop||0.8 mg/drop|
Remember, whenever you are trying a new supplement for the very first time, like CBD oil, you should always start with a smaller dose than what you think you need and gradually increase from there.
These recommendations are meant to help identify the estimated dose that is most beneficial for you. You should never start with the largest dose without properly testing it in lower amounts first.
